Tellingly, crunchyroll lists the series as only Total Eclipse, possibly as a means of distancing it from the original games, although the North American DVD release includes the entire title. Thus, to my knowledge, this series is simply a television adaptation of a manga and light novel series that happen to be set in one of the two main Muv-Luv universes but have very little to do with the original game itself. The anime series covered by this review is based on a novel series and manga of the same name that expand upon the universe of Muv-Luv Alternative but feature few (if any) of the same characters. Muv-Luv Alternative (the game) follows the events of this second half and is set in its same universe. The first half of the original game is basically a dating sim, but in the second half (known as Unlimited), the game's original protagonist wakes up in an alternative world in which an alien force known as the BETA have invaded the earth, and this part has far more of a science-fiction orientation. It was adapted into a manga that same year and received a sequel, Muv-Luv Alternative in 2006. Muv-Luv was originally a two-part adult visual novel developed by Âge released in 2003. Notes: This show has something of a confusing pedigree (bear with me!)
